Blogging while teaching - yeah right! BABY BOOM!

Don't get me wrong, there is actually time in the day when I could blog while I'm teaching full time but the fact is I am thoroughly nackered at this time! This normally 9pm having picked Heidi up on the way home from work, fed her, bathed her put her to bed and had dinner.  When I do sit down at 9pm I am actually ready for bed! So having thought I might be able to blog once a week, frankly the weekends could be better spent so twice in a half term is all I have managed!! Although doesn't mean I haven't still been mentally blogging about my life in my head constantly!!!

As for the BABY BOOM I guess it is not strictly true - but 3 babies were born on Friday that I know which is pretty amazing - so congrats to those lovely lucky mums and dads. I was thinking the other day about a well known cliche of how your children 'bring you so much joy' every day.  It sounds mega cheesy but I was actually thinking how much joy Heidi brings to our lives just by being her!! I also can't believe she is nearly two years old.  She has been in our lives for two whole years!! And yes another cliche - time really does go so fast.  here iss a very cute pic of baby Harper - Heidi hates having hair clips, she just pulls them out!!

Really enjoyed a lovely local wedding last weekend.  The bride looked lovely in a sleek, slinky dress and we celebrated at The Trafalgar in Greenwich in their ballroom upstairs which was gorgeous.  I chose to wear a nautical style dress from a Beckenham boutique and treated myself to some new KG shoes.

Surprisingly comfortable despite the high chunky 5 inch heel although my Scholl foot pads cut off the circulation to my toes!  Great evening with my uni girls.  Got some good photos but unfortunately none of me and my man: (

As for school, the work has been piled on us in this first half term...
To name a few:
Performance management observations in week 4,
Pupil progress meetings and new assessment grids and targets in week 5,
Planning scrutiny in week 6,
Assessment week for the children next week and I decided to do an art celebration day for the whole school in amongst all of this!  Obviously the art day was a huge organisational nightmare as I mixed up the children into mixed year groups - cue chaos in the main hall.  But the final result of group art pieces was amazing and I truly believe the children loved being creative and workng together on their projects.  Now the question is where am I going to display the lovely artwork?? Its huge!!  Here is my group's effort of Monet's garden - if you are not a teacher you probably won't appreciate it.
One more week until half term and I actually don't have any plans - a good thing and a bad thing, it goes quicker if you don't do anything!

To do list for home at the moment is to sell the car - we have been debating this for the past 2 years, a Mini really is not compatible with a toddler but unfortunately we can't afford a BMW X5 or VW Toureg : ( which is what we'd like.  I didn't want to sell my precious mini for it to be replaced by a boring Vauxhall Astra but unfortunately that's what's gonna happen! Needs must -we need a 4 door car....

Also need a new front door quoted £700 great, just in time for Christmas - great!

On the wedding front things have gone quiet, we have booked and paid the deposit and the next stage is sorting out how long everyone is coming out for and where they are staying...I'm kind of putting it off as I think it will be a bit tricky!  And of course I really want to book the flights but hey ho that will happen in it's own good time I suppose.
People keep asking me if I have tried on wedding dresses yet but I think it's a bit soon....I'm scared if I find THE ONE I'll either change dress size or I won't like it and I just think I'm a bit anxious about it.  But friends have recommended I start soon, as they take a while to be fitted etc....Maybe I'll book an appointment around Christmas??

Feeling very very busy but quite positive at the mo

First week back at School!

So it's Saturday morning 7.50am, that is my lie in!! Typically Heidi woke up at about 7am making lots of noise, I managed to ignore it until 7.30am went to get her up and by then she'd gone back to sleep! But of course now I'm wide awake (nackered but wide awake!).  I actually missed my daily blogging so thought I'm not going to have time over the weekend so might as well do it now!

First week back at school has been nackering.
New pregnancies = 1
New engagements =  nil
New babies due = 2
Gossip so far = nil
But I'm sure that will change!

I've had a stress/dehydration headache most days and my 'to do' list is ridiculous especially as my memory stick was in a horrific accident so have lost a years work  - yes I know I should have backed it up - but who does that? The good news is I have an angelic class this year - some real characters but so well behaved.  No group of naughty chatty boys this year YAY!
I also have a student in my class which is great although does put that extra bit of pressure to make my lessons really good all the time (no sitting back and being a bit lazy sometimes).  It also makes me feel a bit of a fraud when I observe lessons as I don't really feel qualified to do that yet (but I'm assured by lovely friends and family that I am).  I also have lots more TA support this year so it seems like it's going to be a great year.
No hugely funny quotes from children yet but I'm sure there will be.  Just ridiculous excuses as to why they hadn't completed their holiday homework over the past 6 weeks!!!

A friend has recently had twins (congrats) and it got me thinking back to when Heidi was a new born and all the late night feeds sitting up at 4am watching the clock for 25 minutes while I burped her thinking I couldn't possibly put her down!!  Of course I look back with rose tinted glasses now but at the time I was sooo exhausted.  I cannot imagine doing it with two! A blessing though obviously.

With regards to my
36 lunges every other day,
no white carbs,
running every other day,
drinking more water,
coffee before a work out ALL FAILED!! have not got the energy to do anything when I get in but hopefully once I get into the routine that will change??

However, I have ACHIEVED 30 minutes more sleep a night!! Bedtime has been 9.30 every night this week.

To do list today actually involves a bit of socialising at a BBQ today but a tee total one as I'm putting Heidi to bed.  To do list tomorrow involves all those jobs for school you realise need doing when you start the new term and haven't done.....eeek

Favourite baby names: Heidi May obviously but famous ones I really like Honor Marie (Jessica Alba) also we thought about Meribelle for a girl!!

and as a homage to my friends twins who have gorgeous names here are the weird and wonderful famous twin names:
Max and Emme (J Lo - quite nice I think)
Mary Kate and Ashley (ok?)
Knox and Vivienne (Brad and Ange)
Phinneus and Hazel (Julia Roberts)
Eden and Savannah (Bree from Desperate Housewives)
Marian and Tabitha (SJP)

6 things that DON'T help you lose weight!

Well today is the first day I'm struggling to know what to write....perhaps this is because i's the first day Im hung over.  No -not a terrible Phoebe hangover - those that know me know that I wouldn't have even moved/opened my eyes if that was the case.  Had a lovely local night out in Beckenham last night but feeling a bit delicate this morning.
Thought I'd update on my healthy 6 Things progress from yesterday:

1. Drink more water - ACHIEVED - until after 5pm - was then replaced by alcohol!
2. Cut out white carbs and swap for veg - FAILED - I think this is actually impossible, had a plate of pasta while out with a good friend, I did ask if they had wholewheat but the waitress looked at me as if I was an alien (I guess we're not in L.A!).  Yes I could have chosen a salad but if I'm going out and paying for a meal I want to enjoy it!
3. Do 30 minutes of cardio a day - FAILED
4. Drink coffee before a work out - FAILED seeing as I didn't do a work out, does having an Irish coffee before marcing up to Patricks count?
5. Do 36 lunges every other day - ACHIEVED - and my butt hurts today YAY must be doing something then!
6. Sleep 30 more minutes a night - FAILED

2 out of 6 a pretty poor start but things can only get better.

Although it is date night tonight, going for a nice meal in a pub called the Spread Eagle in Greenwich (that's a white carb fail right there!), then watching The Inbetweeners movie, cannot wait : )

Just wanted to update on Autumn fashion too.  Afeter moaning about the dark jumpers all over the high street having returned from 35 degree heat in Majorca, I'm actually quite keen to expand my Autumn wardrobe.   This is because it's been FREEZING since we got back from holiday.  So much so that I've got scarves out, skiing jumpers and I'm walking round the house wrapped up as if our heating has broken.  I cannot bring myself to turn the heating on until at least late October, so a trip to Primark is calling!!
As I've said before I wish I could afford netaporter or mywardobe but there we go.  High street stuff is good enough for me.

Although if you haven't checked out the OUTNET it is netaporter's discount site and there is 30% off TIBI at the moment which I quite like.  I'd love to get myself some heeled winter boots...

These Louboutins would do:

Or this new designer Cobra Society:

To do list today unfortunately involves school work: Literacy plans, finish sorting out my classroom, groupings etc.  I have a feeling the blogs are going to become more school jargon from now on uh oh!

Favourite of the day: Item of clothing  -well it has to be a good pair of boots, although I've recently realised how much jewellery can perk up an outfit.  Bangles, a long necklace and I still love a good pair of hoop earrings, verging on gypsy/trashy but I still love them!

6 Things to help you lose weight

I know I am not overweight and I am pretty pleased that I am back to my original post baby size plus half a stone.  I am not so happy that all of that half a stone has been deposited round my glutimus maximus.  I read an article by Kimberley from Girls Aloud and she said 'isn't it weird how everyone's bodies are different and we lose weight from different places?'.  She said she loses weight from her tummy but gains it on her bum, this is exactly the same as me, a classic pear shape.

But she said Nadine loses it from her legs and they get very skinny, as I'm sure we have seen pics in magazines.

Anyway, I know I am in reasonably good shape but I would like to try and lose that half stone from my butt area, especially for the wedding next year.  I was doing a bit of interenet research i.e. wasting a few hours web surfing about how to lose a stone in a month - it's amazing what you come across - and found something that sounded fairly easy to maintain.
It was loosely based on the South Beach Diet - anything that get's me looking like a hottie off Miami beach has gotta be worth a look!
These are the six things it said you could do to slowly lose about 5 lbs in a month:
1. Drink more water
2. Cut out white carbs and try to swap for veg or wholesome ones
3. Do 30 minutes of cardio a day (this includes brisk walking)
4. Drink coffee an hour before a work out (not sure about this one)
5. Do 36 lunges every other day
6. Sleep 30 minutes more than you do normally per night.

Obviously the fat is not going to melt away but I thought I'd give it a go, and as another blog I read recently said, if you write it on your blog you have this strange compelling feeling that you must do it (bit like my to do lists - I have been mega proactive this hols, especially round the house.)

Now I also need to point out I was planning on starting this when we got back from holiday but unfortunately this is what I consumed morsel for morsel on Bank Holiday Monday:

A bacon sandwich from the cafe on white bread
Numerous cups of tea
A take away curry
that was literally it!

So I'll start Tuesday I thought....this is what I ate Tuesday:

2 crumpets (white carbs I think) with peanut butter,
a pork pie,
a slice of quiche ooops

Not pigging myself I know but I've noticed the stuff I do eat is pretty bad.  I figure I'll have to finish the white carbs in my house before I can stop eating them i.e. the crumpets and white bread!!

Wednesday was slightly better (apologies for not blogging yesterday Heidi refused to have a nap so I got virtually nothing done including my blog!).

I had 2 boiled eggs and 2 slices of ham but then met my mum for tea and completely forgot and had a large slice of ginger cake in Westerham mmmm
Then a homemade prawn curry for dinner - I should have skipped the rice ooops and it had potatoes in do they count as white carbs??
So if you read those 6 things and thought, yeah pretty easy like me, try it, it's not but I will persevere.

I did manage to drink more water, sleep more and do 30 minutes of cardio (I think marching down to Beckenham and running round the park after a 2 stone child counts, I got worn out anyway).

I'm also going to try and go running every other night when Dan gets in when I start school next week.

Ahhh school, first day in for me today to sort my classroom out amongst other things, I am very scared as I have not even looked at anything school related all holidays.
That also brings me onto workingschoolmum blogging when I'm back at school - I think to be realistic I'll say I will blog once a week, then if I'm able to do it more (probably if I feel like a rant) I will.

Favourite of the day: Topic at school - for me it's got to be English or literacy as we now call it.  I LOVED learning about it and I LOVE teaching it.

MAJORCA!

Well I have vowed to blog every day of the school holidays, although I can't remember if I said that doesn't include weekends or holidays! So just got back from Majorca, stayed in Alcudia which I can thoroughly recommend for families with children.  The beach has lovely soft sand and the sea is so shallow and goes out for ages so the little ones can frolic in the water without you worrying.
We had an amazing time, the downside, as my other half pointed out yesterday is that we had 0 minutes sunbathing : ( Now I'm not a huge sunbather, mainly due to my milk bottle pallour I look a little like this in the morning:

But I LOVE the heat, I am always cold so to be wandering around in a bikini all day means it HAD to be hot and it was, I think it was about 35 degrees every day. Lovely, as long as I have my hat and sunnies I'm ok, other wise I wilt like a flower!

So not much sunbathing as having an excitable 18 month old meant one of us always had to be on duty as she is QUICK at running.  She loved the sand and was marginally impressed by the sea.  As I mentioned in my post about family holidays, it meant eating out was a bit tricky, as it either had to be at 5.30pm (not great when you're in Spain) or at a normal hour such as 8ish but with a whining child.  Consequently the most relaxing evening we had was when we stayed in the apartment, put Heidi to bed at normal time 7pm, sat on the balcony drinking Malibu and coke (took me back to Tenerife days girlie holiday) eating pistachios and olives then a bit of home cooked spag bol!!  Much more relaxing than trying to go out and walk 7 times round the block with the buggy trying to get a certain someone off to sleep.  Anyway I'm trying not to complain about the holiday, just highlighting interesting points that occur with a child! As we had a lovely time and I'd give anything to be out there for the whole summer.  Thoroughly recommend Alcudia.

So the good news is the save the date cards are ready, the bad news I don't have the car so cannot go and pick them up!! Lots of things on the 'To Do' list today:
Have already done the online shopping
Go to the post office
Sort out car insurance urghh
Take shirts in to be ironed (I cannot abide ironing)
Print some photos of Heidi from hols
Begin some school work (the anxiety is really kicking in now - I'm scared)

Favourite today is going to be favourite ever holiday:  This has to be a week in Turkey when Dan and I had first started going out, we had planned to go to Kefalonia but the travel agent informed us days before we were about to fly that there would be building works from 8am-6pm next door - did we still want to go? Errr No thanks.  With difficulty (I remember it was September 11 2001!) they found us an alternative holiday to Turkey, which we were both a bit unsure of but turned out to be the best holiday we've been on!!

Anxiety,Customer Service and maxi dresses!

I realised yesterday having originally wanted to start my blog about the perils of being a teacher working full time and having a child, I haven't actually talked much about my role as a teacher at all.  Obviously this is because it is the Summer holidays and I am currently mostly being a 'mum' rather than a teacher!  But last night I had my first anxiety dream about school.  It wasn't actually a dream.  I was trying to get to sleep when I had that awful buzzing feeling begin in my brain.   I get it a lot when I am working, my brain starts buzzing with all the jobs that I am supposed to get done for school and I begin feeling these waves of anxiety.  It is worse when you are in that half awake half asleep mode and doesn't feel so bad when I am fully awake but I had it for the first time this holiday.  My eyes suddenly snapped open and I thought 'Did I give my new class their holiday homework?'.  I - still in my waking state - can't remember if I did or not?  'Does it really matter?', I hear you ask, well actually in this case it does as I have a trainee teacher in my class next year and I asked him to base his first lesson on the children's homework!!  I'm pretty sure I did explain it to them but I just can't remember.  These are the sorts of anxious thoughts about work that I have when I am trying to get to sleep.  My brain was then of course on a roll and I began thinking of all the other things that I need to do.  However, now that I have a child I feel I am more able to try to ignore those thoughts.  When I am awake that is.  I'm totally enjoying this summer with Heidi and I have vowed not to think or do any school work till the last week of the holiday.  I may not be that much fun to live with in the last week of the holiday because no doubt I'll go into school to prepare and then realise I've left it all too late but there we go!!

I was thinking how fulfilling it is running round the lounge with your daughter laughing and squealing, jumping up and down on the sofa, scribbling with crayons and actually enjoying it, not so fun when she puked up all her morning milk all over herself! Poor little thing.  She's absolutely fine now, I think it was a combination of jumping around, having had formula instead of cows milk this morning (we ran out) and possibly ingesting the end of a crayon.  The weird thing was my reaction, because she was in her highchair and contained I just kind of looked at her not knowing what to do first, get her out, get a cloth or what and she just looked at me too.  She wasn't crying, it was very strange.  As obviously if she'd have been out of the highchair I would have cuddled her immediately.  I turned into a bit of a mute!!  Anyway, as I said, she's all fine now.

I actually had quite a productive morning this morning - to my surprise.  Without wanting to jinx things, I think I have ordered the save the date cards....Although of course it didn't go smoothly.  I drove down there, knowing that if I rang them to ask if my proof was ready they would say 'No'.  I thought my presence would hopefully hassle them into work.  When I arrived she said 'Sorry it's not ready'.  I was pleased with my assertiveness, I responded with, 'But it's only one sheet'.  It then transpired that they weren't even able to print the proof on card anyway and they would have only printed in on normal paper! Which of course I have already got from crappy 'Cartridge World' and could also have done myself.  I then responded with 'Fine I'll just order them then!'.  Then they told me I hadn't emailed the proof to them in the correct size? This was baffling as even crappy 'Cartidge World' had managed to print them or at least resize them without asking.  It always surprises me the length of conversation you have about something that is entirely unnecessary.  They kept going on about how I'd sent it the wrong size - FINE I don't care! The main thing is: CAN you resize it? You're a printers for Gods sake!!
Obviously I knew they could and to cut a long story short they should be ready when I get back from holiday but I just wanted to share that story as I know how frustrating getting simple things done can be!  I must also add they are not exactly how I want them or how I envisaged them in them in my head but sometimes you just have to get things done! (Not the design, the paper I might add).
RANT OVER but sometimes you just gotta do it.

I also went to Natwest at 9.30am with Heidi with the intention of paying the accommodation deposit for the Italian wedding and after standing there for 5 minutes while their 'system loaded' actually managed it without a hitch.  Although most likely will go spectacularly wrong while I'm away next week, but for now success!

Holiday shopping in Bluewater today.  On my list are:
2 maxi dresses, flip flops, Dorothy Perkins super skinny jeans (Thanks for the recommendation Dr Jools) and some intensive conditioner for my bleached hair!!
On Heidi's list:
Some more shorts, a light sleep suit and a new pair of shoes.

I may have also sorted Ebay Paypal out....but we'll see.

Favourite today is Fave celeb in a maxi dress and it's gotta be the gorgeous Kate Hudson.

Mad Men 1940's Drama, Autumn Fashion and Shoes

First I'd like to say THANKS if you have read my blog.  I spoke to a few friends who have said they've read it.  I'm not writing it for anyone other than myself really but if people do have a chance to read it in their spare 'phone checking' time I'm flattered - so THANKS.  Any suggestions, comments or followers also welcome!!

I must say I'm not massively into the Autumn fashion that is already in the shops even though it's still August!! I mean, I'm going on holiday next week and I'm sure 100's of people have still got a summer holiday to go on and all there is in the shops is dark colours and jumpers!  Androgeny, seventies preppy and block colours are not really my cup of tea.  When you see a wicked 70's styled outfit in a magazine it looks great, but realistically who can pull that off? Remember Cheryl on her first X factor outing?....

I can just about deal with the clour blocking, if they are nice bright colours but having all the dark Autumn stuff out in Summer is just a bit depressing.  And don't even get me started on these weird Beetle shoes.....(see below) Really is ANYONE going to buy/wear them this season?

However, I do love the 1940's Madmen look aka Christina Hendricks.  The hour glass shaped dresses, sexy pencil skirts, dog tooth jackets and towering court shoes - unfortunately they are not really suitable for school and then a bit too smart for going out so not sure when I can wear this stuff??  And I think that's on it's way out this season?

I hope sometimes I might make a recommendation in my blog that someone tries and then enjoys.  I am loving drama set in the 1940's and have always loved Stephen Poliakoff's work but did anyone see 'Glorious 39' on BBC 2 the other night? If you didn't try to watch it, it's amazing.  So well written, produced and acted and so much intrigue and suspense.  It has the same actress (Romola Gerai) that is also in The Hour on BBC 2 - set a bit later I think in the 1950's but the same classic British vibe which I love.  I love the prim and properness of it all and I guess the class system too.  Try and see it on catch up as I think it's the last episode next week.  That reminds me of a great film set in the same period; 'An Education' with Carey Mulligan - loved it.

Anyway, I feel like today is perhaps not going to be very productive - not the attitude really but there we go.
Favourite of the day: Shoes I want to buy....Some towering courts from the website ASOS which I can highly recommend - I wish I used netaporter and mywardobe but alas I do not have the budget so ASOS is much more affordable and copies all the catwalk anyway ; )

Dream Jobs

Just a quick blog today as I'm seeing friends then seeing Gma, isn't it ridiculous how 6 weeks holidays get filled up so quickly? This week was one of those weeks where I had nothing planned and now it's completely full!

When I was younger I really really really wanted to be a popstar and my dream job may still be to be in Girls Aloud! But seriously I'm currently reading a really good book that I can thoroughly recommend.  It's called 'Eat Pray Love' by Elizabeth Gilbert and is about a lady who has just gone through a divorce and goes to find herself by spending a month in Italy, a month in India and a month in Indonesia and writes about it.  I was trying to figure out if it was autobigraphical and whether she actually did this and I think she did.  I mean how amazing a job is that.  I'm going to go travelling, write about it and get paid for it! So I have decided my dream job is to be a travel writer.  One of her other assignments she mentioned was go to a Spa in Bali and review it! I mean that is just a DREAM JOB.  She didn't have any children and granted it would be difficult for me to do this job now.  But how about travelling with children and testing out how family friendly lots of different countries are....now I just need a publisher to agree to give me a £10,000 advance mmmm

Save the date cards are getting there but as per my luck they proving a bit of a nightmare.  The printers did email me back this morning and said they can do a proof 'probably friday', I mean how busy can a printers in Bromley be to print out one card??? Anyway, I'm going with it and you never know I might get them all printed on Friday or at least while we're away in Majorca next week.

Not much on the 'to do' list today as I was so productive yesterday with all my cooking! And I have already hoovered and cleaned the bathroom this morning! (second gold medal in the post!).

Favourite today is: Favourite book you've ever read - a difficult one, I really enjoyed White Teeth by Zadie Smith is it Zadie or Sadie? But there are probably loads of others I enjoyed just as much?  I do love Wuthering Heights, more so since Tom Hardy did the TV adaptation. I could go on....

Italian Weddings and Plum Crumble

This morning I have already put away washing, put more washing on, emptied dishwasher, loaded dishwasher, unpacked shopping delivery, along with usual Heidi duty and PAID THE DEPOSIT FOR OUR ITALIAN WEDDING! ('what do you want a medal?', says other half - no but, well yes actually!!)

Yay it's official, well actually not quite as I don't think it has arrived in the wedding planners account yet but it's as close to being as official as can be!! I'm on a bit of a tight schedule today as going to Godstone Farm to meet an old school friend and her boys at 2pm so not sure if I can get to the printers after Heidi's nap and on the way or not.  These things are sent to try us, knowing my luck something will put a spanner in the works but hey, some lucky people might be receiving THE save the date invite of the year very soon.  Goal is to get them sent before we go on holiday on Sunday?? Is that achieveable?....

So, the wedding is in a beautiful little medieval village called Artimino in Tuscany.  There are some lovely apartments with a pool in the village for some guests to stay in and a hotel next to the amazing villa.  We are actually getting married in the gardens - it looks so amazing, really dramatic and makes me think of the olden days and what would have gone on in the villa many years ago.  The rooms are huge, grand ball rooms so probably old fashioned dances - although I am basing this on my love of English period dramas - who knows if they did that sort of thing in Italy then?

We are having approximately 100 guests and everyone will be staying on site in this lovely village so once you arrive you don't have to worry about getting anywhere.  Before I'd found our wedding venue I wasn't fussed about all tthe razzamatazz that goes with weddings like flowers, string quartets, favours, veils, speeches etc etc.   I absolutely do not want any tradition and we are not having a religious service.  I just wanted a really simple wedding and a party.  However, when I saw the dream venue I just started thinking 'ooohh I want flowers everywhere' and when the wedding planner mentioned fireworks, the little girl inside me went 'Yeah!'.  When I found out the fireworks were £2500 for five minutes I came back to reality.  I do still want it to be simple and not traditional in any way but I have changed my mind about the flowers, in that I want loads!!  I also originally wanted cerise gerberas as they are my favourite, but when I saw the venue I thought cream and pale pink would suit it better.  I am not really totally hung up on a colour scheme, I think I'll just go shopping with my bridesmaids nearer the time and see what they want.
The groom is going very anti traditional with his outfit and it's sounds wicked - I won't spoil the surprise!

As for th dress, I have an idea in my head what I want but haven't actually seen it anywhere yet.  That's a whole other story I guess and it's far too early to start looking for dresses!!

To do list: Make a plum crumble with the plums Dan's mum gave me!!
Print save the dates - I WILL get this done this week!
I can't remember what yesterday's ones were but I am feeling today will be productive.

Favourite: Celebrity wedding - I was going to wedding but the best photo has to be Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt they looked so happy and then bloody Angelina came along grrrr

Detoxing and Dukan Diet

First of alll, I realised I never commented about my date night.  I have vowed to try and blog everyday during the summer hols (except weekends - and when technology let's me down) and therefore never updated on my date night - note - Myleene Klass had one with her other half I discovered via Twitter yesterday!

I can thoroughly recommend The Clapham Picture House cinema.  It was actually like a bar inside, had a great atmosphere and you could take your drinks into the cinema in real glasses (PCness hasn't gone mad everywhere!).  I enjoyed Harry Potter the final instalment, although as a friend pointed out it wasn't really meant to be in 3D so I kind of expected everything to be jumping out at me and it wasn't, though the film was good.  We ate in a little gastro type pub called the Bobbin in Clapham old town, which I had never been to (the old town that is) and I thought it was like going back in time, classic London with lovely little cottages and terraced houses with little flowers in the gardens - quaint.  Shame I had to drive round the south circular and some horrendous estates to get there....

Next, I'm waiting in for a delivery which is why I thought I'd blog again today. I wasn't going to as Sunday night was going to count for my Monday one but seeing as Heidi is asleep and I'm stuck in waiting for something I thought I'd offload my waffle AND I've finally cleaned those f*cking spice cupboards so don't worry you don't have to read it on my 'to do' list anymore! I'm actually quite surprised how blogging has enabled me to become a bit more proactive.  Because I feel the need to comment on things, it is making me actually do more.

Anyway, detox and Dukan diets - this has come about as, if you read my family holday blog, I was starting to feel a bit minging after all the food I'd eaten while being in Dorset.  Cue me coming home and buying loads of overpriced fruit in Waitrose and making a fruit salad which I have eaten 3 times - which is not bad for me as I really cannot make myself eat fruit, it's so boring.  So I thought, with all the furore surrounding the Duchess of Cambridge aka Kate (I also just have to comment on the irritation caused to me by the way the press is now calling her Catherine because she has married Wills, when for the past 5 years she has been Kate?? Why??) supposedly following the Dukan diet and losing all that weight (Dukan diet or not I personally think she lost that due to stress) - I thought I'd do a bit of research.

Now from my piddling amount of google searches I think it is a no carb diet.  Nothing new there, although there is a bit more to it than that e.g. no carbs and just protein until you hit your target weight, then you gradually reintroduce things.  At first glance I think it sounds alright.  I thought about what I eat and thought, well, I don't really eat a lot of carbs anyway, apart from bread, pasta and potatoes my 3 main food groups!! But what I found weird is that during the attack phase you eat only protein but nothing else not even fruit and veg? Most diets say you can eat as much fruit and veg as you want? The way they explain it works I think is probably true, but then it starts talking about ketosis.  This is state your body goes into when it has no carbs to use for energy so its starts burning your fat. Great - until I seem to remember a family friend who is a doctor telling my other half he was going into ketosis when he was really ill and couldn't eat and it kind of sounds a bit like your body is eating itself?!
I would like to try the Dukan but I actually don't think I have enough will power unless I was living on my own with no influences from anyone - i.e. who wants to subject their other half to the bad breath you apparently get?! But anyone who has tried it please let me know.  The age old adage is obviously 'eat less exercise more' - I am doing the former but that brings me onto a whole other kettle of fish - THE GYM.

This is really hard when you have a little one.  But you're on school holidays I hear you cry, you've got sooo much spare time. True and actually I probably could make up a whole lot of excuses as to why I haven't been to the gym since I have been on hols - the main one being I want to spend the precious time with my daughter, but I'm not going to go there.  I havent been to the gym because I haven't had the incliniation or will power!

Things to do today: Pick up some shirts, get my bloody save the date card mock up and possibly all of them printed, I suppose the next boring thing is to clean the fridge!
PS Have started packing for Majorca (mainly heidi's stuff not mine!) so that I can work out what I need to buy!!  For me it is 2 maxi dresses, for Heidi some more shorts.

Favourite: I meant to do this ages ago - Amy Winehouse song 'Tears Dry on Their Own'.

Family holidays

Well, I am sure everyone has been wondering where my blogs have been??? After writing every day, I was curtailed by lack of technology last week.

I went on a little holiday to Dorset with my mum (aka Gma) and my little lady last week.  We stayed in a beautiful chocolate box village in the heart of Dorset.  Unfortunately there was no wifi, no Internet connection, no mobile signal - nada, nothing!! I'd like to say it was quite pleasant to be untouched by the recent obsession with electronic communication but I actually really missed it.  Well that's not entirely true.  Of course I had a wonderful time and could easily cope without constant blogging, texting, checking my emails and even speaking to people on the mobile.  It just made me realize what a time filler it is.  Just think about it, whenever you have a spare moment don't you just check your phone to fill that space in time?? I know I do and that's a bit weird.  What did we used to do in those small pockets of time? Actually use our brains and think about things?  I don't think I need to worry about not thinking any more, as I said before I have this ridiculous need to commentate on my life as it is happening inside my head, so I actually welcome the various forms of electronic communication to unfetter my brain.  I even use the 'notes' function on my iPhone to write 'to do' lists! Well it's better than the tiny scraps of paper you would normally find around my flat!

Anyway, I digress (not a surprise), I was going to blog about family holidays.  Now my mum and I can get on well, but we can also rub each other up the wrong way.  The fact that I have my own little lady now, I think has mellowed us both somewhat. Although worryingly, as my other half pointed out when I returned; "God I bet you turned into your mum when you were away". As is often the case, he is right.  I do tend to become a chameleon around people and morph into them, be it their accent, their philosophy or behaviour.  I don't know if that suggests I'm a weak person, but I just tend to say what I think people want to hear.  Enough psychological evaluation! Let's just say my mum and I got on well, which was nice!

I do find that when I go on holiday I eat more; fried breakfasts, a cake and a cuppa at 11, lunch: a massive baguette and chips (do I ever eat that at school lunch times? NO!), an ice cream in the afternoon and then a full dinner, a cream tea here and there and before you know it you're in this routine of stuffing your face constantly! It just seems ok to continuously eat on holiday.  Luckily the scales weren't too horrific when I got home, I'm lucky I have a quick metabolism but still....

The other thing that is difficult on holiday is meal times with an 18 month old.  Firstly, they eat at 5.30 (at least mine does), so apart from pigging yourself on a plate of chips, who wants to eat their main meal then? Secondly if you do try and go out a tiny bit later and take them with you they are whiney because they are tired and hungry and disturb everyone else's meal in the restaurant (this happened to us). Thirdly, the pub we went to didn't start serving food till 6 and then it didn't arrive until 6.45, cue 45 minutes of whiney crying.  By the time the food did arrive it was too piping hot to give to Heidi and I was too stressed to enjoy my food.  Much easier to eat in with kids.  There was only my mum and me so no options for a baby sitter!

Something else that Heidi thought would be funny, she dropped her absolute favorite soft toy: rabbit (aka rat-rat) down the toilet.  My mum and I spent the rest of the afternoon/evening trying to wash and dry him in time for bed when she would surely be asking for 'rat rat'.  Typically, after hanging him out the window, using the hairdryer etc to try and get him dry, she didn't ask for him!
She also became obsessed with the hair clips I bought her, wouldn't have them in her hair but called them 'air cips' which sounds a bit like 'Herr Flick' from 'Allo Allo', which always makes me giggle.

Enough said about family holidays and my lovely little lady, although I could also mention map reading and snoring but I won't.

I read a good article while I was away and thought I'd share it:
 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/relationships/8688997/Kirstie-Allsopp-Bedroom-is-not-boardroom-sisters.html

Things to do tomorrow now:
No I still haven't cleaned out the spice cupboard
No I still haven't got a mock up of my save the date card
No I haven't sorted out my ebay stuff

I need to pay the deposit for our Italian wedding
More exciting - at some point this week I need to get ready for my other family holiday; to Majorca with Dan and Heidi, which must surely involve some shopping!

Favourite flavour ice cream: a toss up between classic vanilla or rum and raisin (I suggested the latter to share with Heidi on holiday, Gma pointed out she may not like it so went for honeycomb instead - yum)

Hair, Gorgeousness and Date Nights

Day 3 and I've managed it.  To keep writing that is! Although having a little tiny bit of writers block today so thought I'd put a few pics in if I can to make it more than just ridiculous ramblings.

First of all, things accomplished from yesterday; my hair (see pic) whaddya think?? I love the colour not 100% sure on the fringe just yet but think new haircuts always need a few days of settling in don't you?

Kinda cleaned one kitchen cupboard, threw out about 5 bags of flour and sugar with mites in *NICE*, found one spider lots of dust and the oldest candidate - surprisingly not too bad: a jar of mustard - Jan 2010!!
Emailed people for addresses - tick.  So is that 3 out of 3 for yesterday?

Oh was I meant to print a mock up of my save the date?? If I was - that was a farce.  I knew there was a KalKwik in Beckenham so was hoping to get a lovely thick creamy ivory cartidge type mock up.  Raced down there after dropping Little Heidi at Nanna's, the bloody place had closed down! Just my luck.  The only other place was Cartidge World - granted not a printers - they gave me a shitty copy on A4 plain paper I could have done at home : (

Anyway, moving on to Gorgeousness: Guess the ages of the following hotties (they are all mummies too)..........

So what were your guesses? Correct answers at the end of my blog LOL!

Date night: Me and hubby to be have decided to try and have a date night the first Friday of every month (cliched and the sort of thing you read in a magazine - but cliches are cliches for a reason!) Our exciting night out this evening involves going for a gastro pub meal and then going to see Harry Potter in 3D. Small pleasures but I am really looking forward to it, especially as I haven't been to the cinema since my daughter was born!! That's 18 months!!
We probably won't be doing what Roz from Meet The Little Fockers suggested 'Have an affair with you partner!' though - not really into role play!  If you haven't seen that film - do, we watched it On demand the other night and it's just as hilarious as the first two (if you like that sort of humour - which I do!).

Anyway Things to achieve today:
Sort stuff out to sell on Ebay - this is proving almost impossible as I'm having trouble setting up a payment thingy on Paypal, even though I've done it loads theres been some sort or corruption!
Clean rest of kitchen cupboards - God I'm bored of writing it but I'm nearly there.
Buy a couple of pressies for people.
Take hubby to be's shirts to dry cleaners (I can't iron to save my life!)
Get ready for my date night whooop whoop!

Insomnia!

First, hasn't summer gone now! Urgghhh Rain Rain Rain!

Second, thanks to all the people that read and liked my blog, if you have a spare 2 minutes on the toilet or whatever you may want to continue to read my inane pointless babble as my hubby to be puts it!!  He also pointed out then when I start work (school) again my post will read something like:
'Back at school, so much work, so tired, sorry I can't blog anymore'.
He's probably completely right as he knows me so well and what full time teacher would have time to blog anyway?? But until then I will continue!!

Still at least it's still the summer holidays for me, which brings me onto Insomnia! Not the cool track by Faithless but me not being able to sleep.  Unheard of for me and probably most mums and teachers because we are permanently tired.  However, now that I am on school holidays I'm finding I'm actually being able to stay up beyond 9pm!!  The night before last I stayed up to watch Men of Honor with Cuba Gooding Junior and Robert DeNiro - great film, then didn't go to bed till 1AM as I watched Alan Carr Chatty Man. 1AM that's definitely a record for me.  I am loving the school hols!!

But then we come to last night, my lovely girl Heidi decided to wake up at 12.30AM, went in gave her a cuddle and a drink, then still crying at 12.45AM.  Think I've sorted it and she wakes up crying again at 1.30AM.  When she finally drops off I'm bloody wide awake at 2AM but also quite tired.  My hubby to be has to get up at 6AM so I'm lying there eyes wide open staring at the ceiling.  I decide to go to the lounge so I don't disturb him.  I did finally manage to get to sleep on the sofa about 3AM after surfing the Times online on the Ipad.  Now annoying as it was, the thing with being on my summer holidays is; it doesn't matter that I couldn't sleep as I can chill out today!! Well, Heidi did get me up at 8AM but that is still a huge lie in compared to when I'm getting up to go to work (school).  So to those that suffer from Insomnia, I do feel for you.

Coming back to yesterdays Things to Achieve - 2 out of 3 aint bad as they say.  My lovely BFF designed my save the date cards for the Italian wedding and they are WICKED.  I would post a pic but I don't want to spoil it for those people that will shortly be receiving one in the post!!  but once they have gone out I will post a pic as she is really a very talented designer : )
Kind of cleared my hubby to be's wardrobe, didn't clean the kitchen cupboards but did clean the bathroom!

Todays Things to Achieve include:
Cleaning the kitchen cupboards (if I keep writing it, I will soon feel obliged to do it!)
Getting my haircut and coloured this afternoon (long long over due, roots are terrible - I will post a pic of this when it's done!)
Print a sample of my save the dates on paper!
Email everyone for their home addresses (so if you're reading this you can email me yours - thanks!)

Not a huge amount to achieve today but must set achievable goals teachers!

Favourite today is going to be old school sweet - mine has got to be fizzy cola bottles - whats yours?

My new blog

Gosh, setting up a blog a is hard. No I'm not a technophobe but I'm trying to set it up on the iPad and think I've just about managed it. Everyone surely starts their blog by explaining why they have started a blog so here we go.....I am a full time primary school teacher and full time mum to an 18 month old beautiful girl.  I also feel my head is full of inane commentary so thought I would offload it onto a blog. Obviously I very much doubt anyone will want to read my ridiculous waffle but here are a few groups of people I thought it may possibly be of interest to:

Teachers,
Mums,
Possibly Dads (so they can understand why their spouses are the way they are),
People about to get married (Italy August 2012),
People who like discussing relationships,
People who like travelling,
People who like celebrity gossip,
People who like fashion.

(Gosh does that sum me up?)

People that it probably won't be of interest to:

Single party girls and boys who lead exciting lives (I don't!),
Young cool people,
People that hate chick lit,
Intellectuals,
Generally people with a life!

Of course I don't by any means wish to exclude any of the people in the latter groups, if you want to read please do!

Things that my blog may include are my day to day goings on and probably rants, but I thought I might also include a 'favourite' of the day section and also a 'things I achieved today' section as I, like a lot of teachers, am a 'list' person. Isn't it so satisfying when you cross things you have completed off a list?

The only downside with the iPad app for this blog is that I don't think you can upload pics, which obviously makes a blog more interesting, but I guess I'll work on that some how.

For the teachers out there you will realize it is the summer holidays, I just thought I would start my blog now as I actually have a bit of time on my hands, as opposed to when I'm working!

So 'FAVOURITE' of the day today is:

FAVOURITE thing about SUMMER - mine is going out without a coat or a cardigan because it's so warm - love it.  What's yours?

Things I plan to achieve today:

Make my save the date cards for my wedding in Italy with my artistic BFF (I'll do another post about my wedding another time!)
Clear and tidy my hubby to be's wardrobe
Clean the kitchen cupboards

The above list clearly illustrates why people with a life would not want to read my blog!

Ps I know my layout is c*ap but it's all I can cope with on the iPad at the mo!!
